What is the official notation for trap/event uei strings?

I found some notations:

uei.opennms.org/traps/VENDORNAME/TRAP

uei.opennms.org/vendor/VENDORNAME/TRAP

uei.opennms.org/vendor/traps/VENDORNAME/TRAP

uei.opennms.org/mib2opennms/TRAP

Which one is correct?

Is there

The good there is currently no right or wrong cause nobody defined a valid syntax. IMHO it would make sense to define a reliable name schema for imported SNMP MIB trap events. Having a general normalized convention would also help to build manufacturer and device related reports.

If you want to give traps to the community, I would like start with something like

uei.opennms.org

if you have events which are only available in your setup start with

uei.your-company.de

In my point of view the following information should be helpful to be encoded in the event:

  • Source, for example, SNMP trap, Syslog, external script
  • Vendor
  • MIB definition which has the event definition
  • facility or MIB specific source of the message

It seems to me like a topic for opennms-discuss to develop a schema and just refactor all trap events to the developed one.

Just my two cents
